The Hotchkiss Bulldogs opened the conference season Friday night with a disappointing 36-7 loss at Meeker.
The reigning league champion Cowboys put all of their points on the board in the first half.
The Bulldogs rushed for 236 yards. Colton Peebles rushed for 183 yards and in the third period scored on a 73-yard TD run.
The loss gives Hotchkiss a 2-2 overall record. The Bulldogs host rival Paonia this Friday. Kick-off is at 7 p.m. Dubbed the North Fork Bowl, in the past 17 games, Paonia has won nine.
On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
