Brown runs for 5 TDs in 48-13 Panthers' grid win

Delta evened its prep football record at 1-1 with a 48-13 decision over the visiting Pagosa Springs Pirates. Junior Tristan Brown, playing running back for the injured Jonny Ponce, dominated offensive play for the Panthers with 18 carries, 158 yards and five rushing touchdowns. The Panthers had over 300 yards of total offense.

Sunderlands celebrate 60 years of marriage

Norman and Gladys Sunderland of Delta will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Sept. 18.

They were married in Boise City, Okla., on Sept. 18, 1955. They plan to celebrate their 60th anniversary at a family dinner.

Montessori students observe 9/11 with visit to fire station

North Fork Montessori at Crawford, a Delta County public school, observed Sept. 11 by presenting the Crawford Fire Department with a freedom quilt. The first, second and third grade students learned about the tremendous courage shown by the firefighters of New York City, on that tragic day in 2001.

Tree planting commemorates Patriot Day

In commemoration of Patriot Day on Friday, Sept. 11, Lee Marts VFW Post 3571 and its Auxiliary conducted a brief memorial and planted a tree at Delta High School last week. The school's JROTC class and color guard also participated. Speakers included Mayor Ed Sisson, VFW chaplain Linda Stahly and acting police chief Charles Kettle.

Pops in the Park marks ninth year
Pops in the Park marks ninth year

It began with a musical flourish and ended with a military salute.

The ninth annual Pops in the Park concert presented by the Valley Symphony Orchestra and Chorus was enjoyed by an audience of around 200 people Saturday, Sept. 12 at Cedaredge Town Park.
