Saturday, Sept. 26, members of VFW Post 3571 and its Auxiliary honorably retired 50 U.S. flags at Fort Uncompahgre. Post commander David Rowland and Auxiliary president Jennifer Wright explained the process of flag retirement to the invited guests -- nearly 60 Scouts, their leaders and their parents.
The Cedaredge Bruins are keeping pace with Paonia in a tight 2A/1A WSL volleyball race. Paonia is shown on top of the league standings with a 4-0 league mark and 7-0 overall. The Bruins are second at 4-0 and 7-3. The two teams are set to meet on Oct. 1 at Cedaredge High School at 6 p.m.
The old Hotchkiss versus Paonia rivalry was rekindled in high school volleyball last Tuesday night in a match in Paonia's gym.
While the veteran Eagles showed they are still the top team in the region, Hotchkiss demonstrated solid teamwork, a strong team attitude and proved that the young Bulldogs are getting better every match.

A world-class percussionist and session drummer, Alderdice has collaborated with musicians from throughout the world.
"It couldn't have happened on a nicer day," said Paul Kimpling, the U.S. Forest Service Youth Conservation Corps leader with the Paonia Ranger District, while dozens of North Fork area fourth-grade students explored the Lost Lake area of Kebler Pass. The weather was perfect, and the trees were at their peak of color.
