The baseball team from Paonia High School learned that lesson painfully last Sunday when the Eagles fell to Limon 4-2 in the 2A state semifinals in Pueblo.

A graduation ceremony was held for the Delta campus at the Delta Center for Performing Arts on Thursday, May 26, and for the Surface Creek campus at the Cedaredge Assembly of God on Friday, May 27.

Before the annual Memorial Day ceremonies began Sunday at Crawford Cemetery, American Legion District 11 Commander Jimmy Davidson recognized four long-time local Legion members. "They have been faithful members of Lynch-Cotten Post," Davis told the crowd of about 200 who had gathered for the occasion.

Author draws on experience as hospital administrator

Cedaredge resident John Mitchell has drawn upon his experience as a hospital administrator to write a novel titled "Medical Necessity," with the subhead, "Sometimes the Worst Complication is Standing Right in Front of You."

Mitchell worked at Delta County Memorial Hospital during a career that took him from Washington state to the Front Range of Colorado.

At the same time, Amanda Cerise's "Colorado Lifestyles" elective course has given students practice sharpening their academic skills by tapping into the Internet for specific information on how to plan projects and achieve their own life goals.

With many young rodeoers in the state choosing to compete in high school rodeo finals events this weekend, the 58th Annual Western Slope Little Britches Rodeo drew a good response of 32 contestants from Colorado and neighboring states to compete in four rodeos over the Memorial Day weekend.

Pioneer Town opening kicks off summer season

Though actual numbers of the many visitors who attended Pioneer Town's opening on May 28 weren't available from event organizers, one of them told the DCI that "a record number" of visitors passed through the Visitor Center for the day.

Volunteers of the Surface Creek Valley Historical society organized over 20 special demonstrations and activities for their opening-day guests last weekend.
