Ames wins CC meet

Delta High School's boys cross country team scored just 44 points to win last Friday's Pantherfest Invitational cross country meet at Confluence Park. John Ames had his best time of the year as he crossed the finish line in 16:52.43, which was nearly nine seconds faster than last week's time at Sweitzer Lake.

Delta soccer team takes lead in 3A WSL

Two more wins for Delta's soccer team and the Panthers are now the top team in 3A WSL standings at 5-1 and 9-2 overall. Delta outplayed Basalt's Longhorns, 2-1, on Oct. 4 and easily downed Aspen, 6-0, on Oct. 8. Both contests were played on the Cottonwood Fields in North Delta.

Paonia assistant cross country coach Shauna Meilner passed along the following meet results from last week's Pantherfest Invitational at Confluence Park.

On Friday, Oct. 7 -- exactly two weeks before the regional cross country meet -- the Paonia Eagles had a precursor run on the same course at the Delta Pantherfest Invitational (Confluence Park).

Not long after the first Chevrolet Corvette rolled off the production line in 1953, one of the original models was totaled in a single-car accident near Ron Austin's childhood home in Redding, Calif. The accident drew a crowd of curious neighbors, none of whom knew what a Corvette was at the time.

Inaugural Rocky Mountain Hat Trick winners

Members of the Women's Surface Creek Saddle Club brainstormed about a way to increase attendance in the Competitive Trail Rides (CTR) sanctioned by the North American Trail Rider Conference (NATRC). Krisite LaValley from Cedaredge headed up the effort and decided to organize a Triple Crown type of event and named it The Rocky Mountain Hat Trick. A hat trick is usually associated with one player scoring three goals in hockey, but it can also be three consecutive sporting events or races.
