An off day at the plate for Cedaredge High School's softball team resulted in a sub-par performance in the Bruins' opening round of the 3A State Softball Championships in Aurora on Friday. The Bruins have been more than average in hitting statistics all year long but failed to solve Sterling's pitching on Friday in Aurora.

Bulldogs boys 2nd at XC regionals; headed to state

The Hotchkiss High School boys cross country team came to the 2A Region 4 championship race on a mission.

After finishing just short of qualifying for state last year, the Bulldogs ran all season with the intention of getting back to the state meet this weekend in Colorado Springs.

Dransfield and Hillman in top 10; Eagles 2nd at regional XC

The girls cross country team from Paonia High School is going to the state meet for the first time in three years.

Brooke Hillman and Nora Dransfield finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the individual race to pace the Eagles to state.

For the first time in four years, the football team from Paonia High School will not win the 1A Western Slope Conference.

As happened every year since 2013, the conference title came down to the game between Paonia and Meeker. The Eagles and Cowboys have had a fierce rivalry since then.

On Sept. 22, 2016, Mary Ruth Gunderson died of natural causes at the age of 89 in Clarkston, Wash.

Mary Ruth McClung was born on March 16, 1927, in Elkhart, Kan., to John Ewell and Flora Lamkin McClung.

CHS 1951 graduates gather for dinner, monthly breakfasts

After 65 years of "life after high school," 19 classmates out of a graduating class of 28 attended a dinner at the Greystone and a picnic the next day at the Field of Dreams. Seven members of the Cedaredge High School Class of 1951 are deceased.

Surface Creek towns take different paths to internet service

Surface Creek Valley's two town governments are taking different approaches to broadband internet service.

According to preliminary plans released last week, Cedaredge's approach is to bring the Region 10 middle mile service to six anchor institution locations in town at an estimated cost of $45,000 to taxpayers.
