Bruins advance with 24-7 win at Ordway

Cedaredge, Meeker and Paonia all move on in Class 1A state football championships. The No. 10 Bruins (8-2) defeated No. 7 Crowley County's Chargers (7-2), 24-7, last Saturday in Ordway in the first round play. No. 1 Meeker mowed down Ellicott (5-5) 43-6 and No. 3 Paonia (9-1) exacted revenge on Buena Vista (6-4) with a resounding 51-6 decision.

Delta High School's latest adventure was its first-ever sorte into the Class 2A state high school football championships last weekend. The Panthers, No. 10 seeded and 6-3 overall, traveled to Faith Christian High School to take on the No. 7, and 6-3, Eagles in first 2A first round playoff action.

Delta High School volleyball coach Beth Nelson was more than happy with the way seeding worked out after last weekend's Region 10 qualifying play in Colorado Springs. The Panthers, had they hosted a regional, may not have drawn an equally favorable pair of opponents they faced at St. Mary's High School in Arvada last Friday.

PHS volleyball team earns fifth straight trip to state

Nothing comes easy for the volleyball team from Paonia High School.

The Eagles lost their senior co-captain to injury before the matches even started, but Paonia recovered and beat Meeker and Ridgway last Saturday afternoon to advance to the 2A state volleyball tournament for a fifth consecutive season.

From Delta to the big screen

In mid-November a Warner Brothers movie will be released which co-stars a 1924 Dodge Brothers four-door touring car that formerly traveled the streets and roads of Delta and surrounding countryside.

The movie, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," is a new Harry Potter spin-off and stars Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne.
