Cedaredge will send 10 wrestlers to state. The Bruins weren't ranked in the top five heading into the regional tournament and finished fourth with 196 points, just five points shy of first place.

Last week's loss to Cedaredge, 39-36, and a win in Carbondale, 53-36, leaves the Panthers with a 5-2 league mark and 12-5 overall.

Hotchkiss wrestlers 3rd at regionals; three titlists state

Hotchkiss scored 198 points to place third at the 2A Region 1 tournament at Colorado Mesa University, just four points off of the first-place team.

Head coach Richard Flores said he's happy to send nine to state, but lamented a couple of heartbreaking finishes by seniors.

With one match remaining in the 2A Region 1 wrestling tournament, Paonia trailed Meeker, 200-198. Both the heavyweight and team titles hung in the balance when No. 1 seed Trevor Smith stepped on the mat to face Meeker's No. 2 seed, Tyler Ilgen. After three rounds, the score was tied, 2-2 -- two escapes each.

Hospital to open walk-in clinic in Paonia

The Delta County Memorial Hospital District has announced plans to open a walk-in clinic in Paonia. The district selected the former Bank of Colorado location at 218 Grand Avenue for the clinic and purchased the 6,000-square-foot building in late January. They plan to open the clinic as early as this May.
