VFW honors students, teachers

Members of Delta's Lee Marts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3571 and auxiliary gathered with friends for their annual Christmas banquet on Dec. 4 and to honor patriotic writing by local students.

Three Delta Middle School students read winning entries in the Patriot Pen's program, a youth essay contest conducted nationwide by VFW.

Bruins repeat mat champs

For the second consecutive year Cedaredge claimed the team win at the annual Delta Panther Invitational wrestling tournament. Thirteen teams competed at this year's tournament.

Hotchkiss won titles in two weight divisions and scored 158 points to finish third Saturday at the Delta Panther Invitational wrestling tournament.

Delta second at home swim meet

In a three-team swim meet held last Friday, Delta's Panthers finished second with 342 points. Gunnison won the meet with 347 points and Montrose placed third with 270 points.

Kendra Hillman finished first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a winning time of 1:20.48.

Paonia claims dual win over rival Hotchkiss

It's an annual ritual that dates back decades. Each year, Hotchkiss and Paonia step onto the wrestling mat to see which team can out-dual the other.

Last Thursday's dual win went to Paonia, which won at seven weight divisions and won one match by forfeit.
