Caucuses kick off 2018 general election

Precinct caucuses -- the first step in the process for selecting party delegates, endorsing candidates and setting party platforms -- take place across the state Tuesday, March 6.

Precinct caucuses are meetings of registered electors within the Republican and Democratic parties.

Bruin ladies finish third

Though Cedaredge High School's girls basketball team stumbled in the semifinal round of last weekend's 3A district playoffs on Friday, the Bruins managed to bounce back to secure a third-place finish in the tournament and advanced to the first round of this year's 3A state tournament.

Bulldog boys 2nd at districts in De Beque

The Hotchkiss Bulldog boys' basketball team played inspired basketball in last week's 2A District 5 tournament. A 68-63 win over fourth-seed Paonia in quarterfinal play marked the third game between the two rivals in 2017-18 with Hotchkiss (fifth seed) winning two of the three match-ups.

Delta girls lose two games

After finishing the regular season in fourth place, Delta's girls looked to improve on a final standing with games at last week's district tournament in Grand Junction Central High School.

The Panthers made sure they would play in this year's district tournament with a big 51-36 win at home over Gunnison Feb. 20.

What's Happening

Local artists included in water media show

The 26th annual Rockies West National Exhibition at the Art Center in Grand Junction features artists from 17 different states. Among those artists are several from Delta County -- Fred Honchell, Mary Bollig, Judy Chapman and Dani Tupper from Delta, Wanda Brunemeier from Cory, and Betty McKinney from Crawford.

Gillilands celebrate 70 years of marriage

Loren and Melba Gilliland celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Feb. 22.

They met at a nursing home in December, went on their first date in January, were engaged by the end of the month and were married in February.
