Hotchkiss High School senior Dylan Jacob Ashby, son of Jalce Ashby, has been selected as the 2017 recipient of the Betty Wolverton Scholarship. He is planning to go to college to become a veterinarian.

This scholarship is in memory of Betty Wolverton, a much-loved fourth grade teacher at Hotchkiss Elementary. Betty was renowned for her knowledge of and passion for Colorado history. Her enthusiasm was reflected in the many children who were fortunate enough to pass through her class. Her dedication to students continued throughout their high school and college careers.

The Laureate Beta Mu chapter selects the recipient of the award. This scholarship awards $1,000 over two years at $500 per year. In so doing, this scholarship continues to honor the memory and wishes of Betty Wolverton to help students further their education.
