Unfortunately for the Cedaredge Bruins, their baseball season ended abruptly in the first round of the 3A Region 1 playoffs in Lamar. Cedaredge fell behind early in its contest against number three seed Sterling (11-8) and eventually lost 17-7 and was eliminated from this year's 3A state tournament.
Sterling opened the game with four runs in the first inning and tacked on two more in the second frame to take a 6-0 lead into the third inning.
The Bruins scored two runs in the bottom of the third and then didn't score again until the fifth, after the Tigers had plated four runs in the top of the inning.
Sterling wanted more than its 10-3 advantage going to the sixth and added two more runs for a 12-3 lead.
The Tigers scored five runs in the top of the seventh and then held on as Cedaredge rallied for four runs in the bottom of the inning making the final score 17-7.
Cedaredge finished the season at 14-6 and was third in the 3A WSL.
Sterling ended its season, losing to top seeded Lamar, 14-13, in the championship game. Lamar heads to Butch Butler Field in Greeley for the next round of playoffs with a 20-1 record.
Thanks to the efforts of state Rep. Millie Hamner, House District 61, Colorado State University plans to re-open the Rogers Mesa research site.
The facility was taken out of operation in 2011, due to budget cuts throughout the CSU system.
