As this school year opens, visitors to Cedaredge High School may be greeted by a seven-foot-tall bronze bear-with-cub sculpture.
The piece of art was donated to the school by a Montrose man w ho had kept it in storage for some 15 years, explained Randy Brown, principal.
Finally deciding the sculpture could go, "He started looking around for a school with a bear mascot," Brown said. He found the Cedaredge Bruins, and Brown ended up driving his pickup to Montrose and bringing the statue back to school.
The sculpture also displays a very young bear cub. The middle school has a bear with cubs statue at its entrance, and Brown is considering whether the statue now at CHS might not really be a better emblem of school spirit for Cedaredge Elementary School.
In any event, the statue's final home has not been decided upon, Brown said.
Delta Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) will be holding its annual fireworks show at Confluence Park on Wednesday, July 4, having received approval from Delta City Council at the council's June 5 meeting.
The DVFD has 28 volunteers and expects to have eight to 10 firefighters from Cedaredge join them this year.
