Bruin wrestlers finish second at Melton meet

Cedaredge scored 187 points to place second Saturday at the Butch Melton Invitational at Ignacio High School. At 113 pounds, freshman Adrian Nieto was one of four Bruins wrestlers to go undefeated. In the championship match Nieto (17-4) defeated a 26-5 freshman from Pagosa Springs by a 4-3 decision.

The Bruins sent seven wrestlers into the championship match. Sean Dale (126), Alex McCracken (132) and heavyweight Derek Sanchez won their division.

Taking second were Toby Waddell at 182 and senior Pedro Madaleno (195).

Colton Hoerr (152), Jered Hulteen (160) and Drew Markley (170) won bronze.

David Schipmann was 4-5 for the day to place fourth. Schippman's wins were all by fall.

Two junior varsity wrestlers, Brian Hoerr (126) and David Lopez (195) won their division.

Pagosa Springs scored 212.5 points to win the 21-team tournament, which included teams from Utah and New Mexico.
