A visit to Gunnison on April 11 turned out to be disastrous for Cedaredge as it lost a 14-0 conference decision to the Cowboys. Later in the week, the Bruins returned to their winning ways with a doubleheader sweep over the visiting Basalt Longhorns on Saturday. Cedaredge won the first game 11-1 and earned a 14-4 decision in the second game. Game one was a five-inning contest and game two ended after six innings.
In Gunnison, Cowboy pitching shut out the usually good hitting Bruins. Cedaredge managed just three baserunners, including a pair of walks, in the five-inning game.
Trent Cribari spun a no-hitter in five innings of work and struck out eight Bruins along the way.
Cribari (5-0) was also a leader on offense with two hits (including a triple), three runs scored and knocked in two runs.
Three other Cowboys (Chase Percival, Goeffrey McDougal and Dane Johnson) had two-RBI days.
Chris Lindley (2-2) took the loss in Gunnison.
Gunnison, 2-1 and 8-3, scored twice in the bottom of the first and added two more in the third. A blowout inning in the fourth frame produced 10 runs which essentially ended the game after five innings.
The first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Basalt began with three Bruin runs in the first inning.
Jacob Lewis erased an early miscue in the second inning after Anders Brucker reached base on an error. Lewis picked Brucker off first base and then struck out Miles Levy and Dylan Gressett to retire the side and keep the score at 3-0.
Lewis had seven strike outs from the second inning to the fifth, and finished with eight, on his way to the win.
Basalt's Raul Torres was the losing pitcher and was responsible for driving in the Longhorn's lone run on a double in the top of the fourth inning. The Bruins countered with two runs in the inning and ended the game on Tre' Labossiere's single that plated Pedro Madaleno in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 11-1.
In game two, Peter Carlson hurled 4.1 innings and earned the win on eight hits, four runs and six strike outs. Madaleno pitched the final inning and a third for the Bruins, 2-1 and 8-4.
Cedaredge's offense had built a 5-1 lead after two innings and was leading 12-2 after five innings. Two runs in the sixth ended the game.
Lewis paced Cedaredge's offense with four hits and four RBIs. Brandon O'Hern had two hits and three RBIs. Both Lewis and O'Hern had a pair of doubles in the game.
