The Town of Cedaredge has canceled the usual monthly work session which would have been held on Aug. 9. Instead town trustees will focus on the process of planning next year's town budget.
The public is invited to attend all aspects of the budgeting process. The budget process is an important component of town planning. It is where projects are identified and approved, and resources allocated to staffing, capital projects and other programs are prioritized.
Beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, the trustees will hold an all-day session to hear from town departments regarding their budgetary priorities. Later that same day, at 4 p.m., the trustees will meet in regular public session to deal with other town matters. Please note the earlier starting time for the regular meeting since trustee work sessions and regular meetings generally convene at 5 p.m.
All budget sessions will take place in the Cedaredge Civic Center, Grand Mesa Room, 140 NW 2nd Street. The Aug. 16 schedule indicating the order in which town departments will outline their budgetary needs is as follows:
9:30-9:45 a.m. -- Networking and refreshments.
9:45-10:45 a.m. -- Capital improvement plan/vehicle wish list and applicable modification.
10:45-11 a.m. -- Administration.
11-11:30 a.m -- Police department.
11:30-11:45 a.m. -- Animal control, code enforcement, municipal court, abatement and mitigation.
11:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. -- Lunch break.
12:30-1 p.m. -- Employee compensation/benefits.
1-1:30 p.m. -- Golf course/clubhouse restaurant.
1:30-1:45 p.m. -- Park maintenance.
1:45-2 p.m. -- Trust fund/recreation, parks, open space and trails.
2-2:20 p.m. -- Water (raw water collection, treatment and distribution).
2:20-2:40 p.m. -- Wastewater treatment (collection, treatment and discharge).
2:40-3 p.m. -- Streets, facilities and other general fund accounts and major street improvements.
3-4 p.m. --Break
4 p.m. -- Regular monthly trustees' meeting.

• Sept. 13, 5 p.m. -- Budget work session followed by trustees' general work session.
• Oct. 11, 5 p.m. -- Budget work session followed by trustees' general work session.
• Oct. 18, 5 p.m. -- Action regarding resolutions, ordinances, and items affecting the 2019 budget.
• Nov. 1 -- The final 2019 draft budget will be submitted to the trustees and will be available to the public.
• Nov. 29, 5 p.m. -- Public hearing on the 2019 budget.
• Dec. 13, 5 p.m. -- Scheduled trustee action on the 2019 budget.
