Claudia (Cissie) Frey Helmick

Claudie (Cissie) Frey Helmick passed away Sept. 20, 2017. She left this world in her sleep in Lander, Wyo., where she was in hospice care suffering from cancer.

A simple graveside service was held at Crawford Oct. 3.

Cissie was born Sept. 5, 1938, at Maher, Colo. Her parents were Rodney M. (Jack) and Lucy A. Frey.

She attended grade school first through third at the Maher School House. The family moved to Crawford in 1948 where she finished school, graduating in 1956. She went to Barnes Business College in Denver. Returning to Delta, she went to work for Judge Calhoun.

She met her future husband, Jim Helmick, while visiting his sister. He was home on leave from the Navy.

They were married soon after that in Reno, Nev. They lived in California, Azore Islands, Alaska, New Mexico, Denver and Lander, Wyo., where they settled for retirement.

Cis was a real good cook and seamstress. She loved to read and do jigsaw puzzles. She was into ceramics while in Alaska. She also worked in the local grocery store, walking to work every morning as she did not drive.

A cousin said about her, when she heard she'd passed, "I remember Claudia as a dark beauty, with a skin tone and dark hair like her dad." All true. Also she said Cis was short and little -- also true.

Survivors are her husband of almost 60 years; a daughter, Wendy; a son, Jeff; many grandchildren; and even some great-grandchildren. Also, she had two brothers, Gary and Danny Frey, and one sister, Connie Rae Bennett.

She liked the fall season so this was a good time for her burial. She requested to be brought back to her hometown when she died and be buried near her mom and dad and many other relatives.

So we come to this place to lay her at rest. We walked away remembering her. We are sad and we don't understand God's plan. Wishing things could be different but knowing life goes on and the sun still comes up.

So we will say goodbye -- rest in peace. Love you gobbies. See ya later.
