On Friday, June 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Moss Performing Arts Center Robinson Theatre, the CMU Department of Music will conclude its fourth annual jazz workshop with an exciting concert featuring the CMU Faculty Jazz, the Western Colorado Jazz Orchestra and guest artist Ralph Lalama, lead tenor saxophonist with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra in New York City.
A world-class artist, Lalama has been a part of the New York jazz scene since the 1970s. He became a permanent member of the Village Vanguard Orchestra in 1983, was a member of the Metropolitan Opera House and has led several recording sessions for the Criss Cross label.
The CMU jazz workshop offers the opportunity for high school musicians to explore and develop their jazz skills in a combo setting. Participants will perform a free concert at 3:30 p.m. on June 2 and will have the opportunity to attend the final concert that evening. For information on attending the workshop, contact Mick Wilson at email@example.com.
Tickets for the evening concert are $15 for adults and $5 for students.
Thanks to the efforts of state Rep. Millie Hamner, House District 61, Colorado State University plans to re-open the Rogers Mesa research site.
The facility was taken out of operation in 2011, due to budget cuts throughout the CSU system.
