At their Nov. 6 meeting Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, chairman, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes authorized county treasurer Lisa Tafoya to take parcels on which county taxes are in serious arrears through the treasurer's deed process during 2018.
The process will begin in March and take from six to nine months to complete, a little longer when mineral rights are involved with a property. Treasurer Tafoya will work with county assessor Debbie Griffith, including personal trips to the properties. If mineral rights are involved, the owner of mineral rights will be determined. Boundary adjustment will be made if necessary. Personal contact with the property owners will be made. Information will be obtained from State of Colorado on all properties and any lien against the property will be withheld until documents are received from the state.
The treasurer's tax sale for qualifying properties will be held in March 2019.
At the last treasurer's tax sale all on which nothing was questionable sold, Tafoya said.
The commissioners also canceled taxes on three properties, determined under Colorado statutes to be uncollectible after the required periods of time, for a total of $1,684.59; for taxes, $480.74, for fees and interest, $1,203.85.
During constituent time, Elisa Greco of Hotchkiss expressed concern about the bridge at Austin on which Colorado Department of Transportation has placed weight limits. Some truckers are getting to the bridge and seeing the weight limits but not knowing what alternate route or routes are available.
County administrator Robbie LeValley directed Greco, and others who have concerns, to Larry Record, Delta County Road and Bridge District 1, who can direct the trucker to an alternative route to accommodate the trucker's destination. CDOT now has information on its website concerning alternate routes.
Planner Kelly Yeager presented three planning requests, all of which were approved.
The sketch plan for the Gilmore Subdivision, owners Richard and Virginia Gilmore, proposes three lots to be created on the Gilmores' 39.430 acres. The Gilmores state all three lots will remain residential and no future development is planned.
The Wist Subdivision contains 18 acres, owned by Ronald and Frankye Wist, will be divided into two residential parcels.
Michael Wiederich, through his attorney Curtis Smelser, received a six-month extension to finalize his two-lot subdivision in Hotchkiss.
