Dale G. Klatt died Feb. 28, 2017, at HopeWest Hospice. He was 89.
He was born in Paonia Dec. 10, 1927, to Charles and Rhoda Klatt. He attended Stewart Mesa School through the eighth grade and graduated from Paonia High School in 1945.
He was drafted by the military after graduating high school; serving in the Army gave him great pride. After he was discharged, he worked for Bureau of Reclamation as a surveyor.
On May 21, 1949, he married Elaine Connell. His career took them to several towns in the western U.S., where they lived and raised their family. Upon retirement, they spent their summers fishing on Blue Mesa and wintering in Yuma, Ariz., and Las Vegas, Nev.
He enjoyed drinking coffee and socializing with his friends at McDonald's and Randy's Southside Diner.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth (Ed) Pryor of Paonia; daughters, Barbara Ward, Brenda Young, Beverly (George) Salazar and Patricia Kirby, all of Grand Junction; seven grandchildren, Rhonda (Rodger) Rowin, Ron Ward, Kenneth (Leisha) Young, Nicholas (Cecily) Salazar, Justin (Andrea) Salazar, Jordan Salazar and Vicki (Greg) Wolf; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; and brothers, Carl and Gerald Klatt.
Memorial services will be held Friday, March 10, at 1 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2970 North Avenue, Grand Junction.

Delta Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) will be holding its annual fireworks show at Confluence Park on Wednesday, July 4, having received approval from Delta City Council at the council's June 5 meeting.
The DVFD has 28 volunteers and expects to have eight to 10 firefighters from Cedaredge join them this year.
