John "David" Shelton died July 31, 2018, at his home in Cedaredge. He was 79.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at Surface Creek Community Church in Austin, with Pastor John Copper officiating.
Mr. Shelton was born in Cedaredge June 21, 1939, to Wiley and Mildred (Tyler) Shelton. He spent his childhood in Cedaredge and Montrose.
On Sept. 22, 1962, he married Arla Whitmarsh in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
He was a member of Surface Creek Community Church in Austin and enjoyed snowmobiling, ATVing, watching baseball and flying remote control airplanes.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Arla Shelton of Cedaredge; three sons, Douglas (Lilly) Neubauer of Lakewood, Wash., Jeffrey (Cathy) Shelton of Edmonds, Wash., and Donald (Shayne) Shelton of Grand Junction; two daughters, Chris Bingham of Cedaredge and Janet (Bill) Tuttle of Grand Junction; one sister, Bettie Brady of American Fork, Utah; a brother-in-law, Donald (Vicki) Whitmarsh of Libby, Mont.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Shelton; and a sister, Carolyn Shelton.
