After a three-year hiatus the Demolition Derby returns to the Delta County Fair. The derby will kick off the fair beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5. The derby promises to be better than ever and will include Farm Truck heats and an ATV Barrel Challenge. The challenge includes two circuits, the Barrel Race -- a three-barrel challenge similar to traditional horse barrel racing, followed by a pole-bending event. First-place prize money will be paid out as determined by the fastest combined times.
The Demolition Derby includes three starting heats, mechanics, cars and trucks. Derby entry deadline is midnight Saturday, July 15. ATV Barrel Challenge application deadline is Tuesday, Aug. 1. For application forms and rules, visit DeltaCountyFair.com/derby.html.
Thanks to the efforts of state Rep. Millie Hamner, House District 61, Colorado State University plans to re-open the Rogers Mesa research site.
The facility was taken out of operation in 2011, due to budget cuts throughout the CSU system.
