Donald Ray Hamilton died Sept. 24, 2018. He was 86.
He was born May 7, 1932, in Hoehne, to Robert and Gladys (Hawkins) Hamilton. He lived in Olathe, Cedaredge and Paonia.
He joined the Navy and learned building skills in the SeaBees. After he was discharged, he farmed on Minnesota Creek.
On Nov. 10, 1956, he married Elizabeth Ashmore. They lived in Denver for a short time, then moved to Minturn where he was a carpenter for many years. After her retirement they moved to Cañon City where he continued to practice his trade.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling through the western U.S. with his wife, gardening and working in his shop.
Health issues made it necessary for Mr. Hamilton to move to Colorado Springs to be closer to his daughter.
He is survived by his children, Susan Bergquist of Woodland Park and Steven of Gunnison; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, in 2007; and two sisters, Betty Jean Moyer and Barbara Pasic.
A memorial service will be held Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. in the Serenity Room at Brookdale Skyline, 2365 Patriot Heights, Colorado Springs. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia.
