Donald L. Smith of Austin died July 27, 2018, at the VA Medical Center in Grand Junction. He was 82.
A celebration of life service will be held in the fall, which was his favorite time of the year.
Donald Lee Smith was born in Lamar March 30, 1936, to Donald and Laura (Collins) Smith. He spent his childhood in the San Luis Valley.
On Dec. 24, 1955, he married Margaret Jean Combs in Derby, Colo. She preceded him in death.
On Nov. 25, 2007, he married Marjorie Pratte in Gateway.
Mr. Smith was an electrician and a member of Local Union #68. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Smith of Austin; son, Donald (Leigh) Smith of Aurora; daughter, Rhonda (Jim) Collins of Castle Rock; stepson, Rodney Reeder; stepdaughters, Shawna (Ronald) Raddatz and Tonette Marshall; a brother, Larry (Norine) Smith of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two sisters, Marcie Litz of Omaha, Neb., and Carol Rosser of Bethalto, Ill.; two grandsons, Ryan (Melissa) Vrbas of Aurora and Justin Vrbas of Denver; granddaughter, Leah (Simon) Penny of Littleton; five great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Smith; his daughter, Kim Smith; a brother, Kelly Smith; a sister, Linda Smith; and a granddaughter, Jessica Collins.
