Douglas M. Wheatley of Delta died Aug. 26, 2017. He was 98.
He was born Dec. 27, 1918, in Kremmling to George and Bessie (Sampson) Wheatley. He grew up on his family's ranch on the Troublesome near Kremmling.
Mr. Wheatley was a rancher, a truck driver in Colorado and California, a welder for the railroad in Alaska and then a mechanic for the Bureau of Reclamation in Grand Lake, where he retired. He moved to Delta shortly after retiring, yet continued to work as a carpenter, building and remodeling homes.
He enjoyed gardening, photography, woodworking, helping his family and spending time with his dogs.
Mr. Wheatley is survived by his children, Natalie (Perry), Eugene (Karen), Ross (Kathy) and Barbara; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Madie Kilker and Cecile Brolin; three brothers, Eugene, George and Kenneth Wheatley; and a granddaughter, Amber Luque.

A memorial service will be held at Mountain View Bible Church in Lazear at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, with Pastor Jim Jesser officiating.

Two fatal accidents occurred in Delta County within a two-day span last week.
Casey Gillenwater, 25, of Delta was killed the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 13, in a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 133 outside of Hotchkiss.
