Paonia continues to dominate on the diamond. Last week the Eagles outscored opponents, 46-2, in three games.
A walk-off three-run homer by Kaden Seriani in the bottom of the fifth inning gave Paonia an 11-0 non-conference win over Coal Ridge last Wednesday. Seriani was three for four with three RBIs for the game. On the mound the junior pitcher allowed two hits and struck out 12 of 19 batters. Seriani has hit five home runs in the last six games.
Slater Podgorny was three-for-four for the game with three runs, one RBI and one double, and Trevor Smith was two-for-two with one run and two RBIs. Senior Kelby Carver drove in two RBIs.
Last Friday Paonia topped Rangely in a two-game conference series Friday at Volunteer Park.
In game one Anders Schopp allowed one hit and one run and struck out six in Paonia's 24-1 win over the Panthers. Schopp faced nine batters and struck out two in the first three innings of the game.
In the fifth inning sophomore Soul Connolly threw three strikeouts.
Paonia won game two, 11-1. Alex Lozano and Dagan Rienks combined for a no-hitter in five innings. Lozano walked three and struck out seven in four innings. In the fifth inning, Rienks struck out three, walked one and allowed one run.
Freshman Grey Neal, Seriani and Smith all batted a thousand. Smith was three-for-three with two RBIs and three runs for the game.
Paonia was 9-0 heading into Tuesday night's non-league game against 5A Grand Junction (7-5 overall) and in first place in 2A District 3/5 standings.
Paonia faces 3A Bayfield (7-2, 4-0) Friday at Bayfield High School. On Saturday it faces Dove Creek (0-10 1A District 1) at Cortez and Nucla (5-5 1A District 1) at Dolores. Paonia's next home game is April 28 when it faces rival Hotchkiss.
