Eagles volleyball goes 1-3 for the week

The Paonia Eagles volleyball team is 3-3 overall after three straight losses and a win. Paonia opened at De Beque (6-0 overall, 4-0 2A/1A Western Slope League) with a 3-2, 23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-13, 14-16 conference loss.

Poppy Lightfoot completed 12 kills, Ceylon Carter had 12 assists against the Dragons and Taralee Mautz had one error and six aces in 24 serve attempts.

Dragons' senior middle/outside hitter Faith Novess made 17 kills and six solo blocks.

At the Sept. 8 Dawson Invitational tournament at Dawson School in Lafayette, Paonia fell to 2A Mile High League teams Union Colony Prep (5-1, 1-0), 2-0, and 2-0 (25-15, 25-22) to Lyons (3-4). Their one win of the tournament came against the Twin Peaks Charter Academy (2-4, 0-1).

Class 2A teams Union Colony Prep (Greeley), Denver Academy and Liberty Commons also competed at the tournament.
