The annual Edge of the Cedars art festival gets underway tonight (June 6) from 7-9 p.m. with a judges' reception and awards program. The public is welcome to attend and view this year's works of art on display at Cedaredge Middle School, 845 SE Deer Creek Drive.
This is the 46th year for the popular art show. Judging will take place on Wednesday before the show is open to the public and winning ribbons will be displayed during the evening judges' reception. As with years past, the local Zeta Omicron Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) International and Philanthropic Sorority is the sponsor.
Money raised from the art show goes first to provide a scholarship for a Cedaredge High School graduating senior who wants to continue an interest in art in college. Additional funds are used to support local causes such as the animal shelter or the library. The scholarship winner and art show winners will be announced Wednesday evening. Gallery doors open at 7 p.m. and the Wednesday awards program begins at 7:30 p.m.
Following the Wednesday ceremonies, the middle school gallery will remain open from Thursday, June 7, through Sunday, June 10. Viewing hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
The annual people's choice award will not be decided until the viewing public has had ample opportunity to vote for their favorite work. Voting ends at closing time on Saturday, June 9. The people's choice award and other winners will be listed in next week's DCI.
Delta Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) will be holding its annual fireworks show at Confluence Park on Wednesday, July 4, having received approval from Delta City Council at the council's June 5 meeting.
The DVFD has 28 volunteers and expects to have eight to 10 firefighters from Cedaredge join them this year.
