Kathy Wilcox, a mother of three children, grandmother of six and great grandmother of four, has lived in Cedaredge for the last eight years. She has been volunteering at the Shelter Shoppe since August of 2015 and does so because of her love of animals.
The Surface Creek Animal Shelter Shoppe proudly awarded Kathy the Volunteer of the Month Award for February 2017.
Kathy is retired from the Delta County School District and her passion for animals has been a perfect blend for the Surface Creek Animal Shelter as her tireless efforts on behalf of the critters has helped keep the Shelter Shoppe improving and growing each year.
She advocates for animals and little kids "because they don't have a voice."
Kathy is a huge asset for the Shelter Shoppe. She was instrumental in putting on the annual dinner, Crockpot for Critters, held in February this year in the Community Center in Cedaredge. The annual dinner also had a silent auction which consisted of some beautiful and useful items generously donated by local merchants and artists. The proceeds from the dinner and from the silent auction all went to the building fund for the planned new shelter.
Kathy helped make the dinner a big success and her work twice a week at the Shelter Shoppe is vital to keeping the doors open to continue supporting the little friends. Many thanks to Kathy for her long service and hard work.
The Shelter Shoppe's proceeds go to supporting the local animal shelter and the volunteers make it all work. Without them, the little furry critters would not have food or a warm bed.
Friends and well wishers can find Kathy at the Shelter Shoppe located at 290 North Grand Mesa in Cedaredge on Monday and Friday mornings. She would love to have you stop by to say 'hello' and take a look at the boutique shoppe and all it has to offer.
