The 4x800m team of Zack Allen, Gabe Rodriguez, Myles Zouette and Sam Rodriguez ran for a season-best time of 8 minutes, 33.20 seconds to win the event. The time moved the team up from fifth to third place in state top-18 rankings, behind Cedaredge and Burlington.
Freshman Jace Peebles won bronze in the 300m hurdles; the 4x200m relay team of sophomores George Arroyo and Cesar Camacho and freshmen Peebles and Malykai Klaseen placed fourth; and Arroyo, Camacho and juniors Keaton Coe and Kevin Chaves finished fourth in the 4x200m relay.
The 4x400 team of Allen, Sam Rodriguez, Gabe Rodriguez and Klaseen won bronze.
In addition to the 4x800m relay team, Hotchkiss will compete at state in the 4x200 and 4x400m relays. In individual events, Allen will make his third state appearance in the high jump. He placed seventh as a junior, and eighth as a sophomore.
Sam Rodriquez qualified in the 800m and 1600m runs, and Colton Peebles will make his second appearance in the 300m hurdles.
Junior Darrin Young will make his second state appearance in the shot put.
Thanks to the efforts of state Rep. Millie Hamner, House District 61, Colorado State University plans to re-open the Rogers Mesa research site.
The facility was taken out of operation in 2011, due to budget cuts throughout the CSU system.
