As is the custom, all the children participating in the Families Plus program and their siblings were provided with a present to give their mothers and a little coaching to express their appreciation of her. This year they presented her with a blooming blue lobelia plant in a little pot with a bow and tag.
In preparation for this most important gift, a group of seniors living at Crossroads Assisted Living on Third Street in Delta potted up over 100 plants. The activities program at Crossroads volunteered to help ready the plants under the direction of Pam McGee. They not only enjoyed doing the work but even made comments about how wonderful it is to be able to help children with Families Plus.
Families Plus is a local non-profit program dedicated to helping children who are growing up in challenging circumstances. It takes a community effort to support these children with mentors, tutors, special help at school, Mother's and Father's Day gifts, fees for sports, lessons and camps, and lots of guidance from the Families Plus staff. Very welcome are volunteers to do small once-a-year tasks such as delivering gifts or to invest more as do the mentoring families that invite these children regularly into their homes.
Those interested in participating in this communitywide effort are asked to contact Families Plus at 874-0464. For more information see the website at Familiesplus.net.blog comments powered by Disqus
