County officials are planning ahead and preparing to take action if needed as wildland fire season has arrived.
On Monday, Sheriff Fred McKee, speaking to the county commissioners, noted that "fire watch" conditions have been declared in surrounding areas.
With an outlook for hot, dry weather, McKee suggested that an emergency fire ban ordinance be prepared, with the provision that it may be put into effect at such time that weather and fuels conditions warrant.
Having the ordinance "waiting in the wings" would allow the emergency ordinance to be activated without having to convene a regular or special commissioners'w meeting, it was explained.
At its June 17 meeting, the BoCC is expected to consider adopting the ordinance to have it ready in case an emergency needs to be declared to temporarily ban outdoor burning.blog comments powered by Disqus
