This home at 825 4th Street in Delta was destroyed Monday night, but the two occupants, Eula Cooper and her son Floyd escaped without injuries. The fire was spotted shortly after 10:30 p.m. by Bonnie and Darin Bishop, who live across the street. While Bonnie and their daughters called 911, Darin rushed across the street to make sure the Coopers got out of the house safely. They were in the middle of the street when a loud boom shook the air, catching the attention of area residents settling down for the night. The Delta Fire Department attacked the fire while protecting surrounding homes and outbuildings. The Delta Police Department assisted with the evacuation of neighboring houses. The Delta Police Department and the fire department determined the fire started inside the structure and was accidental. Fire station manager Jason Cooley said six trucks and 20 members were on scene. The loud boom was likely caused by an exploding oxygen tank. The residents spent the night with family members.
