For much of his 39-year career, attorney Mike Schottelkotte has served the City of Delta in a variety of capacities. He was named assistant municipal judge in 1974, then served as municipal judge from 1976-1993. After hanging up his robe, he assisted city attorney John Kappa with an assortment of legal matters. In 2006, he was named city attorney. Council and staff expressed their appreciation at the Aug. 6 council meeting, where they presented a backpack filled with tools to help Schottelkotte survive retirement. The plaque above features a Union Pacific train, to commemorate lengthy negotiations Schottelkotte conducted on behalf of the city’s alternate truck route.
