The Delta County 4-H muzzleloader shooting team, competing Aug. 18 at the Colorado State Fair, received the Grand Champion Traditional Muzzleloader award for the fifth straight year as well as the Reserve Grand Champion Open Class Muzzleloader award again. The team, from the left, is Lucas Baier, Evan Welt, Mycala Read and Andrew Ness. Read also took third place at the state fair in the individual Open Class Muzzleloader competition and Reserve Grand Champion in the Traditional Muzzleloader competition. This earned her the third spot on the Colorado 4-H National Muzzleloader Shooting Team. Evan Welt also earned an alternate position on the team for his eighth place win. Three Delta County archers also placed in the top 10 at the state fair. Jacob Black placed fourth with his compound bow, and Thaddeus Conley and James Byram placed fourth and ninth, respectively, with their traditional recurve bows. Delta County shooters will compete again on the final day of the state fair in the trapshooting competition on Labor Day.
