Delta resident Jerry Russell Anderson died April 30, 2013, after a battle with lung cancer. He was 73.
Mr. Anderson was born in Spokane, Wash., Feb. 4, 1940, to Elmer and Charlotte Anderson.
Mr. Anderson served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, retiring as a first sergeant in 1978. He served a tour in Vietnam in 1968 where he earned two bronze medals and a Purple Heart. After he retired from the military, he became a diesel mechanic and worked 20 more years.
He is survived by four siblings, John Anderson of Delta, Morris Anderson of Cheyenne, Wyo., Tom Anderson of Grand Junction and Jenny Anderson of Montrose; his five children, Leone Anderson and husband Dennis Bennett and Dennis Anderson and wife Melissa, all of Delta, Stephanie Anderson of Santa Fe, N.M., and Tommy Anderson and Michael Anderson, both of El Centro, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, Victoria Anderson, Jher Anderson, Nicole Bennett, Michael Anderson, Josh Anderson, Matthew Anderson, Alexandria Anderson, Hunter Anderson, Cori Anderson, Isaiah Anderson and Jon Anderson; and two great-grandchildren, Landon and Joey Fulcher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ingrid Anderson, and a brother, Dennis Anderson.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 10, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta, followed by a funeral dinner at St. Michael's Parish Hall. Burial with military honors will be held at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction at 3 p.m. Friday.
