Delta resident Ernest "Ernie" Prosser died May 18, 2013, at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta. He was 87.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 24, at the multi-purpose building at the Gunnison County Fairgrounds. Inurnment will follow at Gunnison Cemetery with military honors presented by the Army Honor Guard.
Ernest Richard Prosser was born in Salida Feb. 10, 1926, to Robert and Edith Prosser. He spent his childhood and attended schools in Gunnison, graduating in 1945.
During World War II he served with the U.S. Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army.
On Dec. 24, 1950, he married Thelma Rae Meredith in Taos, N.M. They lived in Gunnison for many years before moving to Delta in 1999.
Mr. Prosser was a retired heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, camping and caring for his cattle and horses. He was a member of the Gunnison Elks and the Odd Fellows.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Thelma Rae Prosser of Delta; a son, Rick Prosser and wife Cynthia of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters, Deborah "Debbie" Setzer and husband Allen, and Jeannie Stone and husband Jesse, all of Gunnison; four brothers, Vic Prosser and wife Gloria of Gateway, Donnie Prosser and wife Leila of Salida, Carl Prosser and wife Freta of Rangely, and Dave Prosser and wife Sharon of Delta; a sister, Rosalie Perusek of Palisade; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Prosser was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Marshall and Marian Smith; and two brothers, Robert "Bob" and Bill Prosser.
