Harold Edward Smith died May 31, 2013, at his residence in Paonia. He was 83.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 6, at Delta City Cemetery with military honors by Delta VFW Post 3571.
He was born in Delta Jan. 12, 1930, to Carl and Mable (Odom) Smith. He spent his childhood and attended school in Delta, graduating from Delta High School in 1949. After high school he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Mesa College in 1956 and later attended Colorado State University.
On Aug. 18, 1958, he married Ellen Hansen in Grand Junction. They celebrated 53 years of marriage before Ellen died May 30, 2012.
Mr. Smith enjoyed antique cars, steam engines, gardening, music, his dogs and being a husband and father.
He was a member of the Paonia Nazarene Church, Ute Trail Car Club, Antique Automobile Club of America, Western Slope Engine Club, American Legion and the Paonia Clown Band.
Mr. Smith is survived by a son, Kenneth Smith and wife Betsy of Hotchkiss; a daughter, Danita Green and husband Darrell of Paonia; a sister, Gwen Cannon and husband Art of Delta; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen; a brother, Bill Smith; and a sister, Elma Smith.
