Montrose resident Hilario "Gig" Armendariz died July 9, 2013, at Montrose Memorial Hospital. He was 74.
A Mass of Christian burial was held July 13 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta. Burial followed at Mesa View Cemetery.
Mr. Armendariz was born in Delta Jan. 14, 1939, to David and Guadalupe (Banuelos) Armendariz. He spent his childhood and attended schools in Delta.
On Aug. 16, 1958, he married Comedina Moralez in Delta. They lived in Gateway and Ouray for several years before moving to Montrose in November 1973. They would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year.
Mr. Armendariz was a retired miner. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his children's and grandchildren's sports activities, working on automobiles, keeping up on current events, watching sports, going to the casino, gardening and yard work. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Montrose.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Comedina Armendariz of Montrose; two sons, Jerry Armendariz and wife Gale of Olathe, and Dean Armendariz and wife Lee Ann of Montrose; one daughter, Artie Shaw of Silt; 10 grandchildren, Tres Clark of Alamosa, Crystal Dickerson and husband Kestrel, James "JT" Armendariz and wife Jennifer, Shane Armendariz and wife Melanie, Felicia Bollig, Jamie McComb and husband Tony, Casey Armendariz, and Brennan Armendariz, all of Grand Junction, Jason Armendariz of Olathe, Aimee Armendariz of South Carolina; seven great-grandchildren, Kylan, Braden and Mesa Dickerson, Riley Buniger, Emma and Savannah Armendariz, and Brennen Kline; and seven siblings, Phillip (Judy) Armendariz of Florida, Victor (Theresa) Armendariz of Montrose, Manuel (Barbara) Armendariz, Angelo (Lita) Armendariz, Margie (Lupe) Abeyta, Ermalinda (Joe) Moralez and Virginia Valdez and husband Frank, all of Delta; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by one son, James Armendariz; one brother, Steven Armendariz (his wife Margaret of Delta survives); and one sister, Minnie Abeyta and her husband Joe.
