Vera McKnight died July 6, 2013. She was 89.
She was born in Gosport, England, Nov. 1, 1923.
During World War II she was trained as a wireless operator with the Women's Auxiliary Air Force and as an aircraft fitter. She volunteered to care for Air Force patients in the burn clinic.
She married Bruce McKnight. They met while he was stationed in England.
Mrs. McKnight sang in the Methodist choir and was a member of the Methodist Peace Circle and Eastern Star in Hotchkiss. She was mother advisor to the Rainbow Girls while her daughters served, and was a Methodist Youth Fellowship advisor with her husband Bruce for several years. She was a published poet.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Mc-
Knight and husband Bruce Levin, and Vicki Ward and husband Whitney; four grandchildren, Jenna Wilson, Mike Wilson, Whit Ward and Chris Ward; and a great-granddaughter, Piper.
A private family service was held July 9.
