Eugene Van Kinderknecht of Delta died at home Aug. 22, 2013, from lung cancer.
He was born in Oakley, Kan., to John and Alta (Thomas) Kinderknecht.
He was raised on a dairy farm on Redlands Mesa near Hotchkiss.
He worked on the Morrow Point, Crystal and Silver Jack dams, mined gold and silver in the Ouray and Silverton areas, uranium in Jeffrey City, Wyo., Fredonia, Ariz., Naturita, Slick Rock and Paradox and did placer mining on the San Miguel River near Uravan. He attended San Juan Basin Vo-Tech to become a serviceman for appliances, heating and refrigeration. He owned and operated Mesa View Refrigeration and Heating, LLC in Delta.
Mr. Kinderknecht enjoyed fishing, hunting, crafts, church activities, spending time with his grandchildren, and visiting with friends. He cut and polished rocks for many gift shops, made clocks from Alligator Juniper and sculpted an elk head and horns.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ginger (Porter) Kinderknecht; his children, Cindy Kinderknecht of Broom-
field, Robert Kinder-knecht of Delta and Junior Kinderknecht of Mesa, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother; his father; his stepfather, Alfred Rehfeld; and his brothers, Derald, Earl and Elden.
Funeral services were held Aug. 26 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Delta. Burial was at Cedaredge Cemetery.blog comments powered by Disqus
