Emma Lou DeYoung died Oct. 13, 2013, at her home in Delta. She was 85.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, at Delta First Assembly of God. Interment will be held at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado in Grand Junction. Viewing will be on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.
Emma Lou Reichling was born in Watertown, S.D., April 1, 1928, to John and Clarinda (Conner) Reichling Sr. She spent her childhood on a farm in Waverly, S.D., and attended a country school there. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1948 with a degree in teaching.
On Oct. 7, 1950, she married Samuel DeYoung in Watertown, S.D.
Mrs. DeYoung enjoyed her children and grandchildren, softball, basketball, traveling, camping, hunting and riding motorcycle with her husband.
She was a member of Delta First Assembly of God and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by a sister, Lucille Mack of Lincoln, Neb.; six sons, David DeYoung of Delta, Michael DeYoung and Francis (Babett) DeYoung, all of Grand Junction, Daniel (Patty) De-Young of White, S.D., Patrick (Deb) DeYoung of Brandon, S.D., and Raymond (Cris) DeYoung of Bremerton, Wash.; three daughters, Phyllis (John) Hart of Spearfish, S.D., JoAnne (Mark Mahaffie) Campbell of Craig and Deanna (Dale) Haag of Delta; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Samuel; three brothers; and one sister.
Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory handled the arrangements.
