Longtime Delta resident Vivian M. Jones died Nov. 6, 2013, at her home. She was 94.
A rosary was recited Friday, Nov. 8, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. A Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, Nov. 9, at First Baptist Church in Delta. Interment followed at Mesa View Cemetery.
Vivian Mary Falkenberg was born in Chicago, Ill., March 15, 1919, to Frank and Anna (Deiner) Falkenberg. She spent her childhood in Westcliffe, graduating from Custer County High School.
She married Daniel "Eddie" Jones Nov. 21, 1940, in Westcliffe. They moved to Delta from Westcliffe in 1946.
Mrs. Jones was Catholic. She was a charter member of Delta County Rock Wranglers. She enjoyed rockhounding and making jewelry. She discovered the Dry Mesa Dinosaur Quarry.
She is survived by four sons, Fr. Dan Jones of Westcliffe, Dr. Dick (Dianne) Jones of Austin, Texas, Douglas (Faye) Jones and Steven (Carolyn) Jones, all of Grand Junction; two daughters, Jean (Bob) Matula of Montrose and Rebecca (John) Moreland of Olathe; two sisters, Helen Ruminer of Los Alamos, N.M., and Frances Byrne of Westcliffe; 25 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Michael Jones; a daughter, Cheryll Jones; a brother, Bill Falkenberg; and four sisters, Theresa Payne, Lucille Piquette, Marie Squires and Evelyn Miller.
