Opal Benson Rine of Eckert died Dec. 6, 2013. She was 89.
Opal Irene McPherson was born on the family homestead in Kim March 29, 1924, to Alfred and Bertha McPherson. The family moved to Cedaredge when she was 14.
She married Thomas Benson in 1942. They owned and operated Surface Creek Orchards for 30-plus years. The couple celebrated 54 years of marriage. He died in 1997.
In 2002 she married Ted Rine. They celebrated 11 years of marriage.
Mrs. Rine enjoyed puzzles, camping, fishing, playing Scrabble and Aggravation, gardening, going on picnics and walks and spending time with her family.
She was a past member of Cedar Mesa Club and was involved with the Baca Busy Bees and Delta TOPS for many years.
Mrs. Rine is survived by her husband, Ted Rine; daughters, Darlene (Ellis) Fritchman and Sharon (Vic) Petranovich; sons, Ed Benson and Dwight (Karen) Benson, all of Eckert and Cedaredge; sisters, Ruby Downer of Fruita and Jewel Garnick of Juneau, Alaska; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta with Pastor Bob Hillyer officiating.
