The Delta Doves received a generous donation from US Banks last week.
The donation will further Delta Doves' work of providing breast cancer screening services to local women who don't have insurance to cover mammograms.
Three members of the Delta Doves, including president Beverly Moore of Eckert, gathered last week with staff of US Bank in Cedaredge for presentation of the $400 donation by Dawn Conrad, branch manager.
Moore explained that the Delta Doves has been helping women pay costs of diagnostic mammograms for 15 years. Dozens of women each year benefit from the program. Delta Doves provides money for the service to an average of four to nine women each month, Moore said.
"Delta Doves pays for the mammograms. They are performed locally and all of the money in the program stays in Delta County," Moore said. The health program that the mammograms are part of is administered by the county's department of health.
"We are really thankful to have an organization like Delta Doves in this county," said Conrad.
The US Bank staff came up with a fun fundraising idea based on a mid-week dress-down day event. Both the Cedaredge and Delta branches participated.
Staff members were offered the opportunity to wear blue jeans and pink shirts to work on Wednesdays if they paid two dollars for the privilege.
The project ran through the month of October and raised $50 at each of the two local US Bank branches. Conrad's Cedaredge branch then kicked in an additional $300 bringing the total raised to $400.
Delta Doves membership is open to people wanting to become part of an active organization that does much good in the community.
Moore said, "It makes you feel good to see the women get medical tests they need but can't afford on their own.
"I am told there have been several women who caught a cancer indicator early and were able to get treatment because of the county's program."
