"I'm still on cloud nine. It's kind of hard to believe that Crawford now has its own health clinic," founder Jenny Mitchell said.
"It's not mine. It's the community's. It took awhile to get here. All the community came together to do this."
Mitchell was all smiles last Saturday as guests arrived to help her and her family celebrate the completion and opening of the Needlerock Family Health Clinic in Crawford. The clinic is located at 375 Elm Avenue.
Among those who worked on the project were Mitchell's husband, Tim, who was the job foreman, Steve Scott who was the field supervisor, Alan Cochran who was the alternate job foreman, Aron and Stacey Ciegelski of Ciegelski Electrical, Bob White and Rochelle Santimaw of Bob White Construction, the Delta County Correctional Center Crew #3, Cameron Clark, Liz Heidrick, Tracy and Cathy Cheatham, Les Kolb, Debbie and Randy Polson, Ralph and Jolie Clark, Durfee Day, Denise and Bob Dodge, Diane Reddin and Bill Murray, Heidi Neal, Mary Lou, Karl Hipp, Larry Jensen, Sandstone Excavation, Needle Rock Mountain Realty, Stuff and Store Storage Units, Delta Metals, Bolinger and Queen, Dependable Lumber and Curtis Concrete.
Other contributors to the clinic were the Hotchkiss Kiwanis Club, Oxbow Mining, Colorado Rural Health Center, Gates Foundation, Colorado Grand Association, Virginia Hill Foundation, Cocker Kids Foundation, Crawford Friends Church, the Crawford Library and Crawford School.
"All of this was with volunteer labor or it wouldn't have happened," Mitchell said. "Thank God for my husband or it wouldn't have happened either."
She concluded, "You persevere, and it happens."
The clinic is opening with 10 volunteers now. Then nurse practitioner students will come over from Denver for the semester. Jenny is the only paid staff at this time. At some point she would like a paid person to man the front office.
The clinic includes a bedroom and full bath for the visiting nurse practitioners. There are two examination rooms, a reception area, a kitchen, restroom, lab room and an office for Mitchell.
