The Hotchkiss Town Council always provides in their annual budget for donations to support local organizations.
At their April 11 council meeting, the trustees had three donation requests.
The Kiwanis Club annually holds an Easter Egg Hunt at the Delta County Fairgrounds in Hotchkiss. The trustees voted to continue giving $50 toward the event.
The Hotchkiss High School Graduation Party is supported by the town. Last year the council gave $150. That amount was approved for this year's party which will be held at Hotchkiss High School on the day of the graduation. It is a safe, nonalcoholic event for the graduates.
The Hotchkiss Youth Soccer Association has 170 players between the fall and spring seasons, 144 of those are from Hotchkiss, the rest are from Paonia, Crawford and Lazear. There are five different age groups in U-6 through U-14 teams. All the teams require different-sized goals. The association has two sets of U-6 goals and one set of goals for the other age groups. Some of the goals need to be replaced. U-6 goals cost $960. The association asked the Town of Hotchkiss for $500 to assist in the purchase of goals and to sponsor a cross bar. Two young soccer players spoke to the council.
Trustee Jim Roberts said, "This is a good place to put money in our youth programs."
The council approved the $500 donation request.blog comments powered by Disqus
