The North Fork Pool, the only outdoor public pool in Delta County, opens for another season May 27th at 1 p.m. The pool is located in Hotchkiss near the Hotchkiss High School.
Check out the website www.northforkrecreation.com for directions, pool hours, and schedules for lap swim, water aerobics, and swimming lessons. The pool and surrounding park are also available during the evenings throughout the summer to rent for parties, family reunions and other group events.
The Recreation District and Cocker Kids Foundation partnered with the School District again this year to provide swimming lessons for local students in 4th grade. The goal with this partnership is to ensure that every child in the North Fork Valley has at least one opportunity to learn to swim.
Spring is always a busy time for the North Fork Pool, Park and Recreation District, but this spring, in addition to getting the pool ready for another season, staff hired, season passes sold, and swim lessons scheduled, the Recreation District is also managing the rebuilding of the Apple Valley Tennis Courts in Paonia. In December, Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) awarded the District a grant of over $140,000 for the rebuilding effort. The project combines that funding with money from the Recreation District, the county, the Town of Paonia and the Friends of Apple Valley Tennis, totaling over $200,000. With help from Renner Sports, the project is slated to begin in May and requires 6 to 8 weeks for completion.
News of the tennis court upgrade brought forth other sports enthusiasts interested in playing Pickle Ball and working on options to design and build an enhanced skate park.
The Recreation District board meets on the third Monday every month at 7 p.m. at the district office. Elaine Wood was appointed and welcomed back on the board in April, due to a resignation.
The Recreation District welcomes volunteers, so to get involved in any of these activities, call the office at 872-6122.blog comments powered by Disqus
