The Bike Tour of Colorado will cover 438 miles of spectacular Rocky Mountain scenery next week.
The tour will arrive in Paonia on Tuesday, June 25, from Carbondale over McClure Pass.
The bicyclists will camp at Paonia High School with vendors based at Paonia Town Park. The next day they leave for Crested Butte via Kebler Pass.
The Paonia Chamber of Commerce is using the event as a fund raiser. Frederick Zimmerman, chamber treasurer, asked the Paonia Town Council on June 11 for a special events liquor license and use of town park. The council unanimously approved both requests.
There will be local vendors, wine and beer at the park, as well as live music at the library at 7 p.m. A volunteer cleanup crew for the town park has been formed. Activities at the park will end at 6 p.m.
Since its first tour in 1995, the Bike Tour of Colorado has visited Delta County several times, with overnight stays in Hotchkiss, Paonia and Delta over the years.blog comments powered by Disqus
