Hotchkiss Mayor Wendell Koontz asked for an update from Jim Briscoe, town attorney, about commercial recreational marijuana regulations in the state. Also, he asked the trustees at their June 13 council meeting to provide direction to Briscoe for drafting an ordinance.
The trustees present, Dustyn Foster, Georgia Hopper, Marlin McCracken and James Roberts, were unanimous in having Briscoe prepare an ordinance that would, in the words of Foster, "ban everything that can be banned." McCracken said he doesn't want recreational marijuana outlets within town limits.
Briscoe said he would research and address private marijuana smoking clubs in the ordinance.
Hotchkiss Marshal Dan Miller said that the town needs to revise its Title 17 Laws to match what the state boundaries are.
The ordinance to ban retail pot in town would not overturn the constitutional right of citizens to smoke recreational or medical marijuana and grow up to six plants.
The mayor said he would like the ordinance available for the town council meeting in July.blog comments powered by Disqus
